Happy New Year! With love, Tammy Taylor
5 of the Top New Year’s Resolutions That Make the Lists Every Year….
  • Enjoy More Quality Time with Family & Friends
  • Stick to a Budget
  • Debt Reduction
  • Get Organized
  • Lose Weight and Get in Better Physical Shape

Would you like a 10x bigger advantage keeping your New Year’s Resolutions in 2010?

Tammy Taylor - CEO, Tammy Taylor Nails Inc. - Entrepreneur and Business Owner since 1981 USA Today reported on a study a couple of years ago.
First, researchers selected people who made New Year's resolutions. Then they divided these people into 2 categories:

    • Those who made New Year's resolutions and wrote them down, and…
    • Those who made New Year's resolutions but Did Not write them down.

Twelve months later, the researchers followed up on the people who participated in this study.

Of the group of people who made resolutions but DID NOT WRITE THEM DOWN,

    • Only 4% actually followed through on their resolutions.

HOWEVER, among the group of people who made resolutions (goals) and DID WRITE THEM DOWN…
THIS IS an INCREASE of OVER 1100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know this may sound too easy, but let’s put it to the test; write down your Resolutions (Goals) today, and make a copy; or email them to me, and in 2011 we will see how many of our Resolutions we were able to keep.

Remember, set realistic resolutions (goals) and make baby steps; if you get off track, don't quit, just start again where you left off.

My New Year’s Resolution is going to be:
Keep everything in perspective and when things start going too fast, I will not forget what is really important;
My Faith, My Family, and My Friends

“Happy New Year 2010”
with love,

Clients Fade Away......

Do Not Let Your Holiday Clients Just... Fade Away......

“Now is the time to keep track of every single client who comes into your business.

... The key in business is: Even if clients might not need your services or products right now, when they do, they will remember you, and not go to anyone else.

BEST, Recession Proof Businesses...

Click here to have the Blog Narrated to You by Tammy Taylor

"The Beauty Business has been proven to be, one of the BEST, Recession Proof Businesses"

National data on the Salon industry, shows there are some 46,000 Nail Salons within the USA's beauty business – a $16 billion industry.Tammy Taylor - CEO, Tammy Taylor Nails Inc. - Entrepreneur and Business Owner since 1981

You will see the Beauty Industry in the TOP 10 Recession Proof Industries in almost every single report you read.
And, it is listed in the Top 25 Careers to pursue, in a recession.

When I started in the Nail Business 28 years ago it was during a rough economy, and I have been through at least 3 economic down cycles: so I have a lot of experience to pull from.
And, through my 28 years of experiences, I have observed many similarities in the habit patterns of our clients during these economic times:

  • When the economy is not so good, a lot of women go back to work so they can have extra money to do things they like to do, like get their nails done.

  • Women are more careful about what they spend their money on, but they still like to feel pretty, and Nails are a good investment; they get undivided attention for an hour with their favorite Therapist (their Nail Tech) and their hands and feet look beautiful for 2 whole weeks.

I get e-mails and calls every single day, from women looking for Tammy Taylor Nail Technicians that do Pink & White Sculptured fingernails and toenails, Prizma Nails, Spa Manicures and Pedicures: These requests have not slowed down at all; now we are even getting more requests than ever.

We are so lucky to have such a Great Career; a Career that is FUN, REWARDING and DEPENDABLE.
It would be hard to find a better business to be in right now.

And, what is really wonderful; we make our own pay check, and that is definitely job security.

The beauty business is not easy, but it is ALWAYS DEPENDABLE, and we will get out of it what we are willing to put into it.

If we are working 5 to 6 days a week, we are putting MORE ENERGY into our business, and we will reap BIGGER PROFITS.

If we are only working 2-3 days a week, we ARE "NOT" putting ENERGY into our business, and this will probably mean VERY LITTLE PROFIT.

But, if we can just put more energy into our business right now, while the economy is slow, it can be a blessing; because we will learn how to be better, than we have ever been; and when the economy turns around (WHICH IT WILL!), we will be swamped with more business then we know what to do with.

And, the main thing to remember: "Women Love their Nails, they Love their Nail Techs, and they will always find a way to get their nails done."

With love,

Tammy Taylor

Yes, We Can Make a Difference!

When I think about Thanksgiving, the first thing I think about is helping others that are in need. And, right now it seems like there are so many people in need it can be overwhelming, but to help me keep everything in perspective I always remember the Starfish Story.

"I Can Save This One!" Tammy Taylor
A man was walking along the beach one evening and saw a little boy throwing starfish that had been washed ashore by the tide into the sea.
He thought the boy was silly in trying to save the starfish, as he knew it was impossible to throw every single one of the starfish back into the sea, with the tides washing them up.
The man walked right up to the boy and asked him why he was trying to save the starfish.
"You see, sir, the starfish would die if they are left on the shore.
They need to be in the sea in order to live," answered the boy.
"But son, how are you going to save all of them? Every time you put one back, another would be washed up. It doesn't matter to them, son."
The boy picked up a starfish, looked at the man and said, "But sir, it matters to this one." Then he threw the starfish back into the sea.

I would like to share with you what my long time client and friend, Rachelle, is doing to make a difference.

Rachelle, from Tucson, Arizona

Hi Tammy,
As you know, every year at Provence Salon we adopt a family for the holidays.
This year I received my recipient early!!!

While talking to my client Cathie Raymond (she works for Marana School district), she mentioned a young man who was living on his own, homeless, living in the washes around the school, yet still going to school with the desire to graduate. What an amazing young man. I am so saddened, flabbergasted, yet in awe of someone so young, who appears to have no support, yet still wants to finish school.

Jordan is 19 years old and attends Mountain View High School; he is registered as a Junior.

Tonight I received the honor of meeting Jordan. He is a handsome, sweet, intelligent, articulate young man. His spirit amazes me!! Jordan was reluctant at first and did not want to accept any help but I made him understand he needed to let us help.

Jordan is now living in an abandoned car. He has no electricity, and no means to cook meals. His access to refrigeration is VERY limited (he only has a 2 cu ft. cooler). He had requested a food box for thanksgiving, however, I have been told he will be now be spending Thanksgiving with a family, if this falls through I have offered to have him spend Thanksgiving with my family (that may be torture for him LOL).

The latest update from Rachelle:

Hello everyone!!! I have gotten an overwhelming response from several people about Provence's adopted son....Jordan. I have had several phone calls from people saying they just cannot stop thinking about him!! I feel the same. I don't have the heart to wait for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas with this we are trying to do what we can NOW!!

One goal I am hoping for is getting him a place to live. Every chilly night I think of him, as I sleep comfortably in my bed with a roof over my head! is the temporary plan. There is a hotel near the school that offers weekly rates. I called the hotel to find out if we pay a month or two in advance if they could give us a better rate. When you pay for 4 weeks you get the 5th week for free. This at least buys us 5 weeks to see what other options we can come up with. I have called my wonderful client/friend who had offered her home to Jordan and she is pitching in $200 (I am not sure if you want me to tell everyone your name wonderful friend, so for now I will keep it that way out of respect for you...maybe I will tell everyone later...ha-ha!!!), I also have another client (again not sure about using her name) who is willing to pitch in $100...thanks to you girlfriend, I also have another who will put in $50, thank you!!!! There is a onetime $50 deposit that needs to be paid and the weekly rate before tax is $169.99. Total with tax for the 5 weeks is $825.50.

I had enough money to pay for 4 weeks, which gets him a 5th week free, and the deposit. I have $95 left over, which I will be using to start raising enough money to pay for an additional 5 weeks. (Total is $775) Right now he is paid through December 21st.

I just had the honor of getting him settled in his new temporary home. I personally will sleep better tonight knowing that he is safe and warm!!

The only request I will make of Jordan is that he continues to go to school, and to let us continue to help him the best we can, so that in the near future he can help himself.

I know things are difficult for all of us right now...but I am willing to give up some Star bucks, fast food, or frivolous shopping to help Jordan out!!

I have received just as much if not more from this young man than I could possibly give to him!!! I have pink slips for utilities sitting on my table, but situations such as Jordan's remind me that I don't have it so bad!!! I am also amazed by how giving and good people are, quite often I lose my faith in the basic good in people...again...thanks to Jordan....I am realizing people are not so bad.

Have a great day!

And, when we help others, it takes the focus off of ourselves and it keeps our hearts soft.”

What Business Are You In?

Click here to have the Blog Narrated to You by Tammy Taylor
Now Works On Your Mobile Phone

Does every single person you came in contact with today, know what business you are in?

You can be the very best at what you do; you can be the most experienced person in your field; you can give the best customer service; you can have the most extensive education; you can have the best products; but, if no one knows who you are, how are you going to build your business?
"You have to get the clients to come to you, before they will know how FABULOUS YOU ARE".

Every day you need to be promoting your business; making sure everyone you meet knows what you do; even if some of the people you talk to seem like they would not need your services or products. Tammy Taylor

You gave one of your business cards to your car repairman, and one day he heard someone talking about getting a gift certificate for their mom to get her nails done; and the car repairman says "I met a Nail Technician last week, and here is the card, why don't you call them and see if you can get a gift certificate."

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.
Author: Robert Louis Stevenson

Even if you are not in sales, or you do not own your own business, you still need to promote where you work, and what you do; because, if you can get a “new” client for the business you work for, this will help the business grow (Job security).

It is the responsibility of “everyone” in the business to promote, not just the advertising or sales departments.

Out of need springs desire, and out of desire springs the energy and the will to win.
Author: Denis Waitley

When I first started out in business, I was 18 years old, and I had to get as many clients as I could, and in the least amount of time; because I did not have, a reserve bank account. Every week I needed to make money, or I wasn't going to be able to pay the bills for that week. When you have to make money, and you have no choice, you will be surprised at how creative you can become; as long as you never let the option of: “not” making money pop into your head.

When there is “no option” your brain can figure out amazing things.

I have always said "Either: WE DO IT, or WE DO IT; we have NO OPTION".

This puts us in the right frame of mind, to promote our business.

I did not have an advertising budget when I first started my business; the only thing I had in my budget was: "pay the rent, so I can stay in business another month"; so, I had to have a lot of creativity, excitement & motivation.

Promotion is as important to running a successful business, as homework is to our children: even though no one wants to do it, everyone has to do it, to be successful!

It is necessary to spend at least one hour a day, on business promotion or planning how to promote your business; and you can't rely on other people to do it for you, no matter how great your product is or your service.

"Getting New business is all about PROMOTION”
“Keeping business is all about CUSTOMER SERVICE"!

Remember: Make sure every new client that walks through your business doors or calls on the phone feels welcome, like they are the most important person in the world to you.

There are many different ways to promote your business.

Make a 4-color Business Card that advertises you, and what you do.

A 4-color Business Card is more like a mini-brochure that is easily placed in a wallet, so they will keep it and they will not throw it away.
  • Pass out your “Business Cards/ mini-color brochures” to every single person you come in contact with, every day.
  • Especially make sure your own established clients always have at least 5 of your “Business Cards/ mini-color brochures” with them at all times and ask them to pass them out. (Your established clients are your best advertisement.) And, tell them for every referral, you will give them a little discount or a gift.
  • Make sure you promote your business to all of your neighboring businesses, give them a “Neighbor Discount” and ask them to display your “Business Cards/ mini-color brochures” in their business. And, for every referral, you will give them a little extra discount or a free gift.

Your GOAL is: Pass out 10 “Business Cards/ mini-color brochures” a day. (EVERY DAY)

Here is a sample of one of my all time favorite business cards:

Diane Warth's Business Card

You will be amazed at how you can build “new” business, just by letting everyone know who you are, and what you do.

Go Get'm Tiger!!!

With love,
Tammy Taylor

Stay Positive, Pumped Up and Ready to Win!

Click here to have the Blog Narrated to You by Tammy Taylor
Now Works On Your Mobile Phone

"Thinking Positive Needs a Positive Action to Put it Into Play, while
Thinking Positive "without" Any Positive Action is just Wishful Thinking"

Like a football game and
the coach is pumping up his team, getting them ready for the big game; Tammy Taylor
"Okay Team, stay POSITIVE, remember, you are the best, you are the most talented, you have practiced longer and worked harder than any other team and today we are going to WIN!" and the Team knows they are ready and they are PUMPED UP and READY to WIN!
But, they never leave the locker room!

We aren't going to WIN without playing the game; but, if we play in the game, we also have a chance we might lose.

Thinking Positive doesn't always mean we will win every time, but we will get in the middle of the game and POSITIVELY give it our 100% every single time; giving us a 100% chance that we could WIN!
BUT, Not even leaving the locker room will give us a GUARANTEED LOSS.

Getting up every morning and saying I will choose to stay Positive today, no matter what happens will help make our quality of life better.

Negative Thinking and a Self Defeating attitude causes a lot of stress; and, when we are under a lot of stress, our immune system gets run down; making us more prone to all of the dangerous viruses that are spreading so quickly. It could very well be possible that all the added stress people are under right now, could be helping these viruses spread.

"Every day we all have problems and challenges and possibly disappointments, but, the only difference in each of us, is how we deal with them."

"Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results."

Author:Willie Nelson

Thinking Positive and saying: "I CAN deal with this, and I WILL deal with this"; gives us a 100% starting chance that we will conquer these problems and challenges, than if, when a problem arises, we start Thinking Negatively and saying:
"I Can't deal with this, and, I won't deal with this, because this is not fair"; then we have already self defeated ourselves, giving ourselves no chance.

"Thinking Positive Does Not Solve Our Problems, but, Thinking Positively Makes Us More Positive; so We Can Conquer Our Problems"

Thinking Positive? or Denial?
The Bills are due and I go on a $500.00 Shopping Spree, and put it on my credit card; saying to myself, "something will work out because I am Thinking Positive".
This is not Thinking Positive, this is DENIAL.

The Bills are due and I am Thinking Positive; I say:"If I STAY POSITIVE and do not get discouraged, I can put together a plan and try to conquer this".
This will give me 100% better chance to conquer the problem, than doing nothing.
This is Positive Thinking.

To be more pro-active and to know you are doing everything you can, you need to show up at work every day and tell yourself, "I will POSITIVELY give 100% today", and before you leave work, do ONE MORE THING; so you start the next day ONE THING AHEAD.
Then, when you leave work you will feel better about yourself and your accomplishments; which will help you KEEP YOUR POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

"It is important that you recognize your progress and take pride in your accomplishments. Share your achievements with others. Brag a little. The recognition and support of those around you is nurturing."

Author: Rosemarie Rossetti

with love,
Tammy Taylor

Matthew 7:7-11"Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened.

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.

You parents-if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?

Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!

You know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

Consistency: Boring?

Click here to have the Blog Narrated to You by Tammy Taylor
Now Works On Your Mobile Phone

Consistency: Boring?

Consistency is how we build our business
Consistency is how we create good leadership
Consistency is how we raise our children
Consistency is how we further our education
Consistency is how we stay healthy

Consistency gives our life balance and keeps us grounded. Tammy Taylor

We know we need consistency each day, but we get bored;
Excitement is what we want!

Here is good little story:
The Ants and the Grasshopper
The ants were busy every day working - carrying one grain at a time and storing away for winter. The grasshopper just wanted some excitement and to have fun; he thought the ants were boring.

Months passed; the grasshopper had been having lots of fun and the ants had just kept working consistently; and then when winter came the ants had plenty of food and the grasshopper was dying of hunger.

-Now I don’t want to be the ants or the grasshopper I want to have Excitement and fun and I want the results of consistent behavior without the boredom of consistency.
I want both!

We have a little saying in our family "every day can't be a party", which to us means we can't eat Chocolate fudge sundays everyday, but we can once a week; or we can't be lazy and just play video games all day, but we can for just a little while each day; or we can't skip working out every day, but we can skip it once a week.

I call it the 80/20 RULE

I use 80/20 RULE with a lot of things and it is really pretty accurate.

I need a healthy balance of Consistency and Excitement
80% Consistency (the Now) and 20% Excitement (the WOW)

The WOW can be anything we want to make exciting.
In our job we know we have to do our everyday responsibilities, but we need to set apart time to have some fun at work, and to work on NEW and Exciting things.

A business has to have 80% Consistency (the NOW) in order to run smoothly, but it also needs the 20% Excitement (the WOW), so people do not get bored.

Clients and employees like the 80% Consistency (the NOW), because they can depend on it; Consistency makes them feel secure, but they also need the 20% Excitement (the WOW), or they will get bored and look for excitement somewhere else.

If 8O% is Excitement (the WOW) and only 20% Consistency (the NOW), then you will not have a solid company; the infrastructure will be weak and there is no consistency making clients and employees feel insecure.

For example: When building a house that is made to last, about 80% of the budget has to be to build a strong, firm foundation and infrastructure, then about 20% of the budget, the WOW, can be for the cosmetics, the special things that make it different and special from the rest.

If it was built with only 20% spent on a firm foundation and infrastructure, and 80% was all cosmetic, superficially just to look good, it will come crumbling down.

Another Example:
How about when we are building a beautiful set of sculptured nails in one hour:
60 minutes x 80% = 48 minutes of our time will be spent on Consistency, building the strong foundation and structure so the nails will last.
And 20% = 12 minutes of our time will be spent on the WOW, customizing the shape and the color for each customer.

The structure and the Consistency is the same for every client but the WOW; the shape and the color is customized for every client.

So we NEED BOTH; we NEED Consistency (the NOW), and we NEED Excitement (the WOW), or nothing we do will have balance.

Keeping things in perspective with the 80/20 rule: Can help give us the Excitement we need to keep us from getting bored, and the Consistency, the structure and the security that we need for balance.
Yes, We Can Have Both!

With love,
Tammy Taylor

Is This Client Worth It!

Is This Client Worth It!

When I was first starting out building my business over 28 years ago, I was so excited and I wanted to do everything for my clients. Anything that would make them happy made me happy. I did not have a lot of clients when I first started, so I had to make every single client I did have, feel like they were my only client and they were the most important person to me in the world. I wanted to make sure they would come back because I could not afford to lose one single client.Tammy Taylor

Revolve your world around the customer and more customers will revolve around you.
-Heather Williams

I had to do a lot of work just to get one customer because there were about 20 nail salons within a 2 mile radius of me and the competition was tough. I would make time every day to pass out flyers, pass out business cards, give out 2 for 1 coupons; and do referral incentive programs.

There would be many days I would come in without a single client on my books for that day, but I never got negative; I stayed positive and excited about what I was doing.

If you work just for money, you’ll never make it, but if you love what you’re doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours.
-Ray Kroc

It did not take long for me to get booked solid because my customer service was excellent.

My clients knew how important they were to me and they enjoyed coming to see me. I was always accommodating and happy and excited about them coming to me and letting me do their nails. They would have fun and forget the rest of the world; for one hour; because their hour with me was all about them and only them.

We see our customers as invited guests to a party, and we are the hosts. It’s our job every day to make every important aspect of the customer experience a little bit better.
-Jeff Bezos

And then my big mistake happened that took all of the fun out of my business and ruined my customer service:

My Business was doing great and I was booked solid. I was even turning down clients and still making a lot of money.

But as time went on I started to get a little arrogance about myself, I thought my business was all about me, and I forgot that my business is all about my client. If my client canceled, came in late, bounced a check, or started getting too picky, or complaining, I wouldn’t give them another apppointment. I would tell them, “I will just replace you with someone on my waiting list.” I started having zero tolerance.

My clients started trying to do everything to make me happy instead of me trying to make them happy!

Now this only lasted a little while because when I started getting arrogant with my clients, I also started getting burned out, and I started complaining; that’s when business started dropping.

The more it became about me and not about my clients, I started falling out of love with my clients, and I became more critical of everything they did; they could do nothing right.

This can happen even to the best customer service person. But the great thing is too learn from it and become better.

When I saw how my attitude was affecting my business and my happiness with my job, I knew I had to change. At first I did not realize what it was I had to change; I thought I had to change my clients and then my schedule; everything else except me.

When things were not getting better, I had to think back why was I so happy when I started out? Even if I didn’t make a lot of money, I enjoyed what I was doing.

That's when I realized I had forgotten my simple philosophy from when I first started “MY BUSINESS IS ABOUT MY CLIENT and NOT ABOUT ME."

Every day we have to run our business like we are just starting and we do not have any clients. And when we get a New Client, we have to treat them like they are our ONLY Client and our Existing Clients are Golden; and we need to continue to always treat them like they are our ONLY client.

No matter how big or how small our businesses are, we have nothing without our clients.

So the question is:
And the answer is:

"MANDATORY TIME OUT" (a day to relax, even if there are a million things that need to get done)

Busy people need to have at least one day a week to relax, to re-energize and to get organized for the week.

"Burn brightly, without burning out." – Author- Richard Biggs

I realized how fast of a pace we live in when a couple of years ago my Tammy Tayloryoungest son, who was 13 at the time, and my nephew who was 12, were sitting in the back seat of my SUV with a couple of their friends and they were saying: "this school year is flying by so fast, it seems like we just started school and it is almost summer".

When I heard this I was shocked, I remembered back when I was a kid and time just crawled by, I never thought school would end, and it seemed like forever before summer was here; then when summer finally came, half way through I didn't think summer would ever end. Everything just seemed to move at a slower pace.

This is really something to think about. Have you ever heard the saying "when you are really busy, time flies", but I knew we were way to busy when time was flying by so fast, even my children were feeling it.

I got so wound up with the fast pace of the world I was creating the same fast pace for my family, so I started slowing down my pace and my families pace with my mandatory "TIME OUT DAY" (the day to relax, even if there are a million things that need to get done)

My children and my husband need this down-time to relax, just as much as I do, and even though they don’t like mandatory "TIME OUT DAY", I know they need it.

"The time to relax is when you don't have time for it."
Author- Sydney J. Harris

My "TIME OUT DAY" also helped me at work, because I didn’t come to work tired anymore.

When I am not tired, I have More patience, More Productivity and I am More Positive and More Creative.

We must organize our time and be the master of our time, rather than becoming a slave to the constant demands on our time, or we are going to wear ourselves out. I know I have to put everything into perspective every day, and only do the important things that need to get done that day first; if there is any time left I can fit in a couple of little extra things, but I do not allow myself to get over scheduled.

When we are NOT Organized: we feel like we have too much going on, and we get tired and overwhelmed easier.

When we ARE Organized: we get more done in less time, and we are less tired.

Have you ever heard the saying “if you want something done, ask a busy person".

The busier someone is, the more organized they have to be; if they were not organized they would be exhausted and not able to do half as much as they do.

Being organized also means organizing FREE TIME just to RELAX.

A busy person has to schedule in time to relax, or they will be like the energizer bunny when the battery wears down: they just collapse.

This is the way I get the extra time I need to continue to have my "TIME OUT DAY" every week: I use a little part of my "TIME OUT DAY" to get my week organized, and getting organized makes my week more productive. This in turn gives me the extra time I need.

This is what I do on my average, mandatory "TIME OUT DAY":

#1. I have to rest (no schedule allowed)

#2. I Make my list of what needs to get done that next week (organizing the everyday responsibilities)

#3. I Make my list of the extra stuff that I need to get done that next week (organizing the special projects or appointments etc…) When my schedule is full (that is when I say no more), I put what is left onto the following weeks list.

What I have found by making myself take one mandatory "TIME OUT DAY" a week, I get more done in those other 6 days than I use to get done in 10 days, because I am not tired and I am more organized.

Have a Great Week.

Tammy Taylor

Is There Anyone Who Can Push Your Buttons......

Is There Anyone Who Can Push Your Buttons......
Can they get you from HAPPY to MAD IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS!

"For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind."
Author, Ralph Waldo Emerson Tammy Taylor

Being angry is always a waste of our time and our energy but, Button Pushers are everywhere, and they are in all of our lives.

These people can remind us of the 5th grade bully, who would say hurtful things just to get attention, or punch someone because they were angry or they would be hateful to someone they were jealous of.

But, we cannot deal with these "Button Pushers" like we might have dealt with the bully when we were 10; by hiding their lunch, putting gum in their hair or just outright slugging them, etc...

Proverbs 12:16 A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.

As adults we have to learn how to deal with these people, and not allow them to make us angry and hurt our feelings.

But, most of the time these "Button Pushers" are the people we love and who are very close to us, a family member, a friend, a co-worker; so they are usually very good at knowing our weaknesses.

That is why it is so hard to IGNORE them, because once they start attacking our weaknesses, we take it personal, and then we get angry.

Promise yourself to be so strong so that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
Author, unknown

The key thought is:

It’s About "Them" (they are the "Button Pusher" who likes to "aggravate" people); this is not "NOT" About "You" (so do not take it personal).
Remember "Button Pushers" can only aggravate those who let them.

The very best way to deal with a "Button Pusher" is:

And, every time you choose to walk away and "do not" get angry, you will get STRONGER and STRONGER.

The 1st time you walk away is the hardest time; the 2nd time you walk away is hard; the 3rd time you walk away is a little less difficult; and by the 10th time you walk away you are going to be SO STRONG and SO PROUD of yourself you will not want to let "Button Pushers" bother you anymore.

So remember, the next time someone tries to push your buttons, "just smile" and say to yourself: "the way they are acting is not about me, I have a choice, so I am going to walk away."

A smile is the beginning of peace.

To Raise or Not To Raise....

To Raise or Not To Raise....

Do you always seem to be the one that expects More From Those Around You?

Does anyone ever say to you "let it go, it doesn't affect you so why are you wasting your time”?

It is easier to ignore what others do, and just say to yourself, "to each his own", than to make anyone accountable. But what happens when "no one” keeps anyone accountable?Tammy Taylor

"It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable."
- Moliere

Lowering the bar and making excuses does not help anyone.

I know it is hard to let someone know when they are not doing something to their full potential, or something is not up to expectations; but, if you do not say anything, then nothing will improve.

And, because you know you should have said something about it, you will probably start thinking about it, and thinking about it, until you get mad and just say forget it!

I am not going to deal with this any longer. Just shutting that person off or losing your temper. Or, if it is someone you do business with, you just stop using their services or stop using their products.

Then that person is IN SHOCK, and says to you "I had NO IDEA you felt that way, why didn't you ever tell me anything was wrong?”

And you might think "well they should have been able tell by the way I was acting”; not really; if you are acting different with them, they think it is you that has the problem, not them.

Or, you might think, they should just know they are not performing well. This will probably come as a Surprise to you; but NO they usually don't know; it is something about human nature; we think we are always at our peak performance, even if those around us know we are not. So, until someone brings it to our attention we think everything is just fine.

Expecting more makes everyone better; it makes our families, our jobs, our businesses and our Country better.

By not accepting just O.K. Performance, or just O.K. Service, or just O.K. Products, we will help everyone get better. There is nothing the matter with this, it is called "RAISING THE BAR".

BUT, before we can start RAISING THE BAR for others, we need to RAISE THE BAR on ourselves first. This will make us more UNDERSTANDING and more FIRM when we do RAISE THE BAR for others.

We do not want to come across as mean spirited, a nag, or a complainer in the way we RAISE THE BAR for others, but we will do it in the same way we did it for ourselves, SLOWLY and LOVINGLY, but FIRMLY.

In the business world, the reason why RAISING THE BAR is so important, is because in Today's economy, people are expecting more.

And in order for a business to thrive, it needs to be at PEAK PERFORMANCE every day; every day has to be like the SUPERBOWL.

Services and products that were once treated like a "necessity” are treated more like a "luxury” now!

Where before, in a good economy, we accepted just O.K. or mediocrity, and it did not bother us much, because we just figured we could pay to have it done again or give it away and buy another one.

But now, our whole way of thinking is changing; we just can't throw things away and get new ones or pay to have something re-done.

We are now demanding more value for our money.

"To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity."
- Donald A. Adams

Businesses "now” have to convince consumers that they are going to get the very best value for their dollar with the:

  • Best Quality
  • Best Service
  • Best Guarantees
  • Best Education
  • Best follow up
  • Etc…

The KEY IS: People will spend their money, but they will need to be 100% sure they are getting the best.

People will remember the bad quality or a bad service long after they have forgotten the price.

None of us want cheap, because we know that is never a good investment. Whether it is cheap nails, or cheap clothes, or a cheap dishwasher, because we know it will fall apart and we will end up spending more.

"Truly great companies are built on ideals, not just deals."
- Al Watts

But, if the businesses that sell more expensive services and products do not GIVE PEOPLE THEIR MONEYS WORTH, people will take their chances and buy cheap; because they were not convinced of the value they were getting with more expensive services or products.

The GREATEST THERMOMETER you will ever have to help decide if your business will thrive in the New economy is:

If you had to pay someone exactly what you charge for exactly what services or products you are selling - Would you pay it?

Or, would you want more value for your money?

with love,
Tammy Taylor

People have had the same problems since the beginning of time, and our problems are no different, we just think they are, because they are our problems.

We need to ACCEPT our New Economy as our New Reality, and CHANGE the things that are now “not” working (even if they might have worked before).

CHANGING the way we do business; the way we handle our jobs; and the way we handle our finances, will make things better, simpler and easier for us to deal with.Tammy Taylor

Our New Economy Seems Like It Has Created a NEW Environment, that has All New Challenges, but I would love for you to read this quote from the early 1900's, it sounds like it was written today:

We seem as a nation to be suffering from a mania for play.

The huge development of pleasure-chasing automobiles merely symbolizes our universal restlessness and eagerness to be running after something, anything that we can classify as diversion.

Under pressure from tormenting constituents, our legislatures are piling up holidays.

And the cry of labor everywhere is "Cut down hours; cut down hours," until it seems as if brief, tired minutes were all that would be left for work.

The obvious deduction is that work is always something to be got rid of, as if it were a curse. Yet life is work. Editorial from Labor Digest, June 1922

When we ADAPT to all of the NEW changes around us we can get better.

There have been a lot of changes in the last year, some good and some bad, but this is our New Reality; and the sooner we learn to ADAPT to our NEW Environment, the faster we will be able to IMPROVE IT.

Pretending things are the same, or thinking things are going to be like they use to be, can lead to being negative and frustrated.

I was talking to some people the other day and they were so disgusted and all they did was complain about the economy, their finances, the government and the shape the world is in; they had no solutions and no ambition to make any changes, or to even try and make anything better, they just complained.

Now I do not mind talking about the economy, finances, the government and the shape the world is in, because it gets my mind going. I get ideas about what I can do to help change the situation. But to just talk and not do anything about it, I will not do that.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning.”
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Accepting the new Economy does not mean we agree with the new Economy nor does it mean that we are just going to go along with it.

But: To thrive in any environment, you need to know your environment and ACCEPT your environment; then ADAPT to your environment and make the CHANGES needed to grow, and build, and PROSPER in your environment.

A tough economy can make us better than we have ever been. Do not let a “tough” economy beat you down.

There are so many New Opportunities, we just need to start thinking more about what we “CAN DO” not what we cannot do.

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them. ~G.B. Shaw, Mrs. Warren's Profession, 1893

Feeling like you have no control over things can make you tired and depressed.
But, you do have control.
Make a list of your top 3 things that the New Economy has done to change your Life:

  1. Expenses are getting higher every month:

You are in control - Start brainstorming with everyone around you that spends your money, and make a list on how you can become more efficient and decrease your expenses. (It is all of the little stuff that adds up.) Do whatever you have to do to get your expenses under control and ADAPT. Then you need to figure out “New” ways you can get more money coming in.

  2. Business has gotten harder to make a profit:

You are in control - If the way you are presently doing business is not working, then Change the way you do business.

GET IN TOUCH with your clients. Find out what they want and what they need, and ADAPT to their needs. (Maybe you need to start looking for a way to get New Clients that you never thought of before.)

  3. Less money to spend:

You are in control - If you have less money, spend less money; ADAPT to what money you do have. Then start brainstorming, and figure out how you are going to make more money. (Work extra hours; go to more classes to improve your skills etc…)

Making the necessary CHANGES is NOT COMPLICATED, but it can be a bit painful and uncomfortable.

“When one door closes another door opens. But, we often look so regretfully upon the closed door that we don't see the one that has opened for us.”
-- Alexander Graham Bell

We have Amazing New Opportunities ahead of us; we just have to be willing and ready to embrace our New Adventures.

with love,
Tammy Taylor

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
