2008 No More Excuses...

Editorial: 2008 No More Excuses
By Tammy Taylor

"2008" No more excuses and no more procrastinating. You need to make a Plan of Attack!
Become more successful, do better nails, be more organized, build your business and make more money.
All these wonderful things can happen now; but only if you get started. If you already started, that's great and you are on your way. If you haven't started, then today is the day!
Get out a pen and paper:
1. Write down 5 things you have learned from me in all the years you have known me; from watching my videos, reading my articles and website, and my "Guide to Manicuring & Advanced Nail Technology".
2. Write down 5 goals you want to accomplish in the next month.
3. Write down 5 goals you want to accomplish in the next 6 months.

After you have written down the goals you want to accomplish in 1 month and 6 months, number them (1-5) in sequence of importance, #1 being the most important.
Here are some examples to get your creative juices going:
1. Clean out your station.
2. Follow up on all new clients.
3. Sign up for a Tammy Taylor Workshop.
4. Make client cards.
5. Start promoting your Specials packages.
6. Perfect the smile line on your Pink & White acrylic nails.

Today I want you to write down the start of your Plan: Just a couple sentences on how you are going to begin each goal starting with goal #1.
You must have a Plan even if it is not perfect, because if you wait till then, you will never get started. Remember, a "Plan" can only be perfected as you go because so many things change daily in our family and our business. ("We have to adapt our Plan daily to keep it going!" Tammy!)
If you are waiting for perfect timing or until you have enough money to get started, you could be waiting forever and wasting today. Just take little baby steps every day, diligently working your Plan, and in 6 months you will look back in unbelief as to what you have actually been able to accomplish.
I have been in the nail business 25 years, since I was 18 years old, and the years have flown by even though some times it has felt like I was going in slow motion and going uphill. Even though it felt like I would never get ahead, I kept diligently working my "Plan" with a capital "P"; Not a capital "P" for perfect but a capital "P" for "Plan!"
Taking baby steps every single day, I just kept plugging along and some times, even feeling like a plow horse, but I never gave up. Now I look back over the last 25 years and cannot believe what has been accomplished. I get so excited and it makes me want to do even more over the next 25 years.
Now, take a look back at all of your accomplishments and you will see there are a lot more positive accomplishments than what you might think. How to do a full set of nails is a HUGE accomplishment. My first set took 8 hours and they all fell off, but now I have the world's record for the fastest set of nails in less than 20 minutes. I am so glad I didn't wait until I was perfect to do another set of nails, or I would still be waiting, 25 years later.
Now, look at your 5 goals for this month and start your Plan with a capital "P": Today! Take baby steps every day, diligently working your Plan.
Start right now and remember: Never Give Up, And Never Give In!

Do You Ever Get Confused Between Onychomycosis (fungus) & Pseudomonas Bacteria (aka the Greenies)?

Editorial: Do You Ever
Get Confused Between Onychomycosis
(fungus) & Pseudomonas Bacteria (aka the Greenies)?

By Tammy Taylor

When a greenish-black discoloration appears on the nail
plate, it is most likely a 'Pseudomonas', which is a type
of bacterial infection, aka, "The Greenies". The Greenies
are caused from moisture being trapped between the
artificial nail and the natural fingernail.

"THE GREENIES"

are directly related to the artificial nail not adhering properly.
If there is anyway moisture can seep between the artificial
nail and natural nail, it can be the perfect breeding ground
for the 'Greenies'. The breeding ground needs warmth and
moisture (basic food for Pseudomonas). So, the Greenies
are found on the nail plate and not under the free-edge.

Greenies aka Pseudomonas "THE GREENIES",
aka, Pseudomonas bacterial infection is not a mold. The
term 'mold' has been used for over 20 years in the nail
industry to describe what has most likely been a
Pseudomonas bacterium. But 'mold' is not the correct
scientific term. Whereas mold is a fungus and 'the
Greenies', aka, Pseudomonas bacteria, is not a fungus,
but bacteria.

"The greenies"

can be easily spread, usually with un-sterilized files, nail dust
from filing, cosmetic dusting brushes, and anything not cleaned
before the next client, but the Greenies are easily killed.

When a nail has the Greenies, it is recommended to remove any
artificial covering and expose the Greenies to the air. Then apply
Tammy Taylor 'Fresh-Nail' to the affected area for about 1
minute, either with a Tammy Taylor Towelette or full
submersion of the affected nail.

The stain is permanent and will have to grow out.
You should be able to apply a new artificial nail immediately,
unless the natural nail is very soft. Then you should leave the
artificial nail off for 2 weeks and check at the next appointment.Onychomycosis

Using the Tammy Taylor Sanitize often, during
the day, will help rid nails & hands of bacteria.

Fungus ...
Loosening of the nail plate is Onycholysis. The basic normal
causes can be drilling on top of the natural nail plate (trauma to
nail bed), strong chemicals or detergents, picking artificial nails
off instead of soaking them off and a puncture to the Hyponychium.

Onycholysis (lifting of the nail plate) is the perfect environment
for a fungal infection to start growing and turn into Onychomycosis,
a fungal infection. Onychomycosis will continue to cause separation
of the nail plate from the nail bed, and can be transferred to the other
fingernails and the toenails.

There are four basic types of Onychomycosis: 1. Distal subungual,
2. White superficial, 3. Proximal subungual, 4. Candida. Types 1 &
4 can cause the nail plate to lift from the nail bed and are probably
the most common ones that nail tech's see.

Fungus is very difficult to kill and it is very contagious. An antifungal
treatment must penetrate all the layers of the nail (Keratin) and skin
surrounding the nail.

(In talking to a doctor in Newport Beach, California, he said
that he did not like the oral medications like Griseofulvin, where
the cure rate is low and there are side-effects for fingernail and
toenail fungus; nor did he like the idea of the medication traveling
throughout the body and through the liver before it got to the
fingernails or toenails. And, this would also entail additional testing
of the liver to see if it could handle it. A good topical product
would be best.)

Onycholysis
(loosening of the nail plate) is not a fungus but it is
susceptible to fungus. This is why we recommend scrubbing with
Tammy Taylor Anti-Bacterial Soft Soak and a plastic manicure
brush, followed by Tammy Taylor 'Thymolize' underneath the
free-edge, especially with artificial nails, at least once a day as
prevention. So if they do get Onycholysis, the
Tammy Taylor
Thymolize
should help prevent it from becoming a fungus
(Onychomycosis.)

Fungus is not a virus. Fungus is not a bacteria.
Fungus is a fungus. Mold is a Fungus.

If you do have a fungus, we recommend removing the artificial
nail(s) completely and treating with Tammy Taylor Thymolize
3-5 times a day underneath the free-edge at the Hyponychium,
every day, until the natural nail reattaches.

The same goes for toenails.

If you do not see any improvement within 7 days, refer the client to a
physician.
